Venue: Guisborough Football Club
Date: July 22nd 2006
It's cold, it's wet, I'm soaked to the skin. Yes folks i'm in Guisbroughtrying my hardest to find The Football Club but alas i'm hoplessly lost. A couple of phone calls later some flooded roads and an arse in a white van who showers me and i'm here. It looks tiny i have to say but tiny in a tardis kinda way. Theres ID needed at the door but i don't have any a 16+ venue with a nice little black mark on your hand to prove your over 18 and then i'm at the bar wayhey. The bands are sitting around chatting with their
friends its a nice comfortable atmosphere.
Not too long to wait and Lynch take to the stage, it's the first gig for these guys and they're here to impress. The first song starts and Alex (vocals) demands that we all "get the fuck up" Now i'm getting on a bit, 26 you know, and probabaly the third oldest person in the room so i just sit back and enjoy the band, all the kiddies are having a whale of a time and before long the playful push of a pit starts them off slaming into one another while the band unleash their non-specific genre of metal upon us all.
Lynch came to impress and they certainly do, unrelenting drums, guitars that deafen and a bass player who rumbles your dinner in your stomach coupled with a barrage of sreamed lyrics from an enthused vocalist are the perfect mixture for that night out you always wanted, everything is going great for these guys the mix from the desk proves a good balance of all aspects in this band and you don't miss a note, beat or word, well possibly words but the sound is amazing. (it could be that our very own MR Rich is at the desk but its pure speculation.) The band finish and are greeted with
applause they thank us and go.
Shigeru have had their tea, they popped out for chips before Lynch went on, have had some beer and are ready to ROCK. Shigeru have been around for a while, somewhere in the region of 6/7 years but have agreed to waive a fee for tonight in order to help Lynch with their showcase, they're nice guys. They get their gear together swap the kits around plug in and wait for the
nod.
First thing on the agenda is to congratulate Lynch on their performance, thank us all for turning up in the appaling weather to see both bands and then they start. I've seen this lot before, i used to gig with them when they started, good old days in the piper, but enough of reminising this is not the band i used to gig with, they're leaner the songs are immaculate, they're meaner the guitars got really dirty and have more strings and they have a permanent drummer. They play through their songs with apparent ease, these guys know each other from playing together for so long and you can tell they are comfortable with throwing their songs out for the general public to hear, there's no nerves and if there are they are hidden very well. Old songs are played, new songs are played, all the songs are played and Shigeru do it with professionalism and style.
Even though these are the headliners there's no arrogance from them they don't belittle their support they congratulate them and thank them for letting them play, a band with real class.
The gig is over and all went well, only two things spoil it for me, the weather because i had to sit in wet clothes all night and the arrival of WEAM.
