Daath – The Hinderers

Daath are achieving a lot more than your average 6 piece metal band from America. Not wanting to compare them too harshly with other more ‘well-known’ bands, it has to be said that they put a lot of them to shame. With a sound that is definitely more Scandinavian based, with strong black and death metal influences, Daath certainly have a much more interesting take on metal than a lot of their American counterparts.

Using evil sounding riffs and melodies, tied together with very definite drum work (which is where the black metal influence takes its hold) the band have a very strong style. The vocals set themselves no boundaries in terms of melody, allowing the tune to take place in the guitars and other instrumental elements, leaving the menacing lyrics as gut wrenchingly raw and pure metal.

There’s not really a bad word to be said about this album, varying from songs with bass lines that make you want to dance, songs that are epically black metal utilising more traditional piano sounds to those that are edged with a hint of Industrial and those that are just brutal metal, as required. Expertly delivered from start to finish, ‘The Hinderers’ is definitely worth a listen for fans of metal who like their music with a bit more passion and bite than faddy metal bands that are favoured by the masses.
