With a sound that is somewhere between Greenday and early Iron Maiden, 'The Authentics' managed to seamlessly blend heavy rock and punk rock to bring us their album 'Blondes make the best victims'.
A group of mostly well structured songs filled with a good measure of pounding riffs that demand head banging and a faster parts that need a good old dance. However there is a feeling of disappointed by pretty weak vocals which in a lot of songs sound a bit out of place, it does fit in with the sound of certain songs such as 'Shot in the dark.' Some songs have the potential to be some sort of rock anthem, but are sadly let down by the vocals, such as the hard rockin’ album closer ‘Heartbreaker.’
There is still many a catchy chorus on this recording, cheesy in there own rockin' ways, that you can’t help sing along too. some songs straight up heavy rock such as 'Face the writing on the wall,' and Frustrations and ultimatums’ others upbeat and laced with a punk rock flavour such as wonderfully happy 'Burn what remains,' and 'pervert'. Guitars and drums occasionally scruffy and sometimes not very well thought out, other times very well put together. There is some decent lead guitar work throughout. Lead riffs and solos all over the record give it that extra edge.
