The Plague Symphony - The Black Gate

This is the first i've heard of this West Midlands Quintet and there Death/Grid/Hardcore Metal brand of Music, I can honestly say i've heard nothing like this before, mainly due to the fact that this is not my preferred style of listening material but i'm here to do a job so here we go.

This is a mini album/E.P. (whatever you want to call) containing 7 tracks which run for a seemingly short 18 mins, that is no doubt due to the frantic pace of the thing. Musically this is good, hard brutal punishing music, relentless is a better word I would imagine. Lyrically i couldn't tell you a thing i have no idea what these tunes are about, the guttural growl of the vocalist robs the lyrics of any comprehensive meaning and even during the screamed sections words are still frightfully unintelligible, that said the music almost makes up for it, almost, some sections are a bit mushy, (to 'borrow' a phrase from an old friend), with so much happening in every bar only the slow grinding sections which are few and far between give any indication that there are actually different instruments playing at the same time.

This is Not my ideal area of expertise and i would not want to offend the Band in any way, i'm not saying its awful it just isn't for me, friends of mine who are into the Death/Grind/Hardcore scene have been quite taken with it and I had to stop them coming round to pinch it before I'd chance to review it so although not something I would listen to it is something people I know do enjoy.
