Black Stone Cherry look like the sort of guys that appreciated rock and metal in a time when long hair and denim jackets were the height of coolness, and this is certainly reflected in their sound. Using laid-back melodies and rhythms punctured with rapid drum beats, screeching solos and a good dose of rock voice, they are putting a sound out there which has not been explored by new bands for a good few years.
Full of groove and bluesy riffs, BSC are unashamedly funking up the alternative music scene, already taking the USA by storm and hoping to have the same effect on the UK. To be honest, there’s really no reason why they shouldn’t. Although obviously not everybody’s favourite style, the band are undeniably talented and each song is full of soul and charisma and extremely well-written to each little detail.
The only issue with creating this sound and completely making it their own, is that there’s bound to be a truck load of similar bands miraculously emerging into the limelight after BSC’s initial impact has died down. However, there will be no denying that this band are quite clearly leading the way, projecting a strong and confident album, which is made even more impressive by the fact it is their debut. This is definitely an album worth listening to, even if the genre is not one usually favoured, you must be made of stone not to be blown away by the sheer talent in Black Stone Cherry.
