Enter Shikari : The Cornerhouse
The first time I saw Enter Shikari was a few years back near the end of a charity all dayer. Few people remained to witness the fantastic show they put on that day, but everyone bought merch & Cds that day including myself.
2 years on and Enter Shikari have played almost every venue that exists in the UK & returned to rock them all again, resulting in a fanbase of hardcore fans that have seen them play Download & Reading/Leeds festivals and sold out The London Astoria, a feat only managed by one other unsigned band, The Darkness.
The band return to Middlesbrough tonight to play infront of a well sold out crowd in a small sweaty room. The kids are wearing Enter Shikari t-shirts, throwing shapes in the air and holding their glowsticks aloft as the band rock their way through an already well known set that include Jonny Sniper, Anything can happen in half an hour, Sorry, you're not a winner, OK time for plan B, and Mothership.
Despite a few technical problems the kids aren't bothered, they chant "Shikari, Shikari" ! as frontman Rou treats us to the sound of the brown note, a bass note so low "it will make you shit yourself", hopefully bowels intact we have certainly seen what all the fuss is about tonight.
You may not like Enter Shikari, you may not like their fans haircuts, you may not like their music, but you can't take away the fact that this band have worked harder than most bands that exist, and that's why they have achieved the status of being one of the UK's biggest bands right now.
